Day in the Life - 20 Months

I feel like the second Emmett hit 20 months, he shot up, got way more physically able and learned a ton of new words. In other words, he's quite the little boy! This sweet boy went on his first airplane ride (and did GREAT!) and we had a wonderful vacation in Estes Park, Colorado with some fellow baby friends. The town is so kid-friendly, there was lots for us to do. And despite Luke and I both getting a stomach bug while we were there, we managed to get some great hiking in at Rocky Mountain National Park while we were there.

Now onto our day!

7:30 a.m. Emmett is up, so we are too! Luke hops in the shower and I grab Emmett and get dressed, then we all head downstairs.

7:50 a.m. I let E pick out his spoon for the morning. We sit down to breakfast. I was starting to burn out on my oats, but after not eating them while on vacation or when we got back, I was into it. Emmett now enjoys eating cereal out of a bowl with milk and a spoon - talk about big kid! I often whisk a little yogurt into the milk to up the protein power.

8:20 a.m. All done! Luke and Emmett play/head outside and I throw dinner in the crock pot. I saw this Cooking Light recipe for slow cooker pork chops and decided to give it a try. My house currently smells AMAZING. I pop outside to relieve Luke so he can head into work - a little later today than usual.

8:50 a.m. Emmett and I pack up the hiking carrier and hop into the car to head to Balcones District Park. We're hiking with a few friends, and then we play on the playground! E enjoys some graham crackers on the hike, and an apple on the playground. It's a nice day out (for August at least) so we're all happy to be outside and active!

11:15 a.m. We get back home and I hop in the shower. Then I warm up leftovers for lunch, but E is more interested in playing than eating. I start and he runs over to the table. I put him in his high chair but he doesn't want to eat there. He eventually ends up on my lap taking turns taking bites out of my bowl and his, but he doesn't eat much... Mostly quinoa and a few bites of broccoli. Monkey enjoyed a special seat at lunch ;) We quickly read a few of his current favorites - Toot Toot Beep Beep and Roadwork. Notice a theme?

12:00 p.m. Back in the car, we're off to Emmett's future school! It's meet the teacher day at his Mother's Day Out program that he starts next week - just a few mornings a week. He meets another boy in the class and they totally gel, and Luke and I get a few moments to chat with the teacher. She seems so great, and afterwards when E and I visit the playground there another mom raves about the teacher. Always comforting to hear that! I didn't take a picture in the classroom since it was full of kids, but it's super cute!

1:30 p.m. We're home and Emmett is looking really tired, so I immediately pour his bottle and take him upstairs. It's a weird bottle though and he's REAL mad when it's done. We read a few books and I put him in his crib, but he's all tears today. I say bye bye and head downstairs.

1:45 p.m. He calms down and almost looks like he's asleep on the monitor, but keeps making a few sounds and stirring a bit. I power through a blog post I have due for Whole Foods.

2:40 p.m. Luke's mom Jennifer is here! She's watching E tomorrow so I can do a video filming with HapPea Fries. E never slept and is starting to get a little fussier, so after chatting a minute we go upstairs to grab him. Then they have a ball playing while I clean up the kitchen a bit.

3:30 p.m. I slice up some grapes for Emmett and we turn on an episode of Daniel Tiger - his favorite show. We don't watch much TV, but he got into it on our road trip to Iowa the other month. Now I let him watch it on rainy days or if we're in the car for a long time. He's always requesting "Naniel" :) He watches the first 15 minutes and then prefers to play with it in the background. I sneak in some time to work on this blog while he's entertained ;)

4:30 p.m. All of a sudden the ceiling drops a bunch of water in the hallway. Ummmm - what?! I call Luke at work and he thinks it's something AC related. I drop down some towels and try not to freak too much. Jennifer and Emmet head outside to play for a bit. He needs a diaper change so I bring him in for that, and things go south from there. All of a sudden my super lovey, sweet toddler loses it. The no nap situation escalates into a full toddler meltdown.

5:10 p.m. Luke is home a little early to assess the AC leak situation and Emmett is still screaming. I throw on a pot of water to boil for the pasta to go with dinner, and Luke, his mom and E head out front to play with a ball. That helps for a bit, but he starts losing it again.

5:40 p.m. We sit down to dinner and E is NOT having it. He walks around the downstairs crying and being miserable. He finally makes his way over to the table and wants to sit in a grown up chair. Hey, if that'll get him to sit down and eat a few bites, I'm down. He eats approximately 10 egg noodles, 1 bite of pork and spits out a green bean. Better than nothing though with this terrible mood. And, the adults all loved the dinner ;)

6:10 p.m. Emmett insists on a walk, so Jennifer and I take him while Luke continues working on the AC problem. This cheers him up immediately and we have a ball on our usual route.

6:40 p.m. I don't want to walk on borrowed time, so we carry Emmett home to get started on bathtime early. He enjoys it, his bottle, and story time. Then we brush teeth. He's NOT excited to go in his crib, but I persevere and read his goodnight book, then we say bye bye and close the door.

7:15 p.m. He's out like a light after 1 or 2 minutes of fussing. Phew! Luke needs help with AC work, so we jump on walkie talkies and get to work.

8:00 p.m. Yay! He sorted out the problem (at least for now...). I dish up some ice cream for me and Jennifer and we kick up our feet and watch some reruns of The Goldbergs. I need something lighthearted after this day... Luke grabs a beer and joins us.

9:00 p.m. I call it quits early and head upstairs to make sure my outfit choices for the video shoot tomorrow are in order. Then I read a chapter in my book and lights out at 10.
